‘Should not be so difficult to finish’

Making Brock Purdy the best paid player in the history of the 49ers remains their intention, the owner of the franchise, Jed York, insisted on Tuesday in the middle of an alignment overhaul which reflects the “consequences” of their quarter pay.

“This is a decision that we have made, I cannot tell you exactly when, but halfway through the season, that we want to make sure that Brock is there for a long time,” York told the NFL owners to journalists from the Bay region in Palm Beach, Florida.

“Once again, you cannot pay some quarter-back money to someone and have all the other talents in the way we did it,” said York. “Now we have to start filling this piece with the project.”

While the support of the 49ers has seen eight starters and 19 players reaching other teams, Purdy’s payment remains at the top of their task list. It should not be determined how much a cost and exactly when this extension of the contract is to come, probably before the fourth and last year of his recruit contract.

“I feel good, and when it is ready, we will sit down and finish it. It should not be so difficult to do,” said York.

Purdy’s agent Kyle Strongin had maintained private negotiations.

York nicknamed Purdy a quarter-Arrière of the NFL top-10, the one they committed in mid-season last year to reward, probably on a multi-year agreement which crosses the annual threshold of $ 50 billion in the other quarters of the top-10.

It is not a coincidence that the possible extension of Purdy coincides with the contraction of the alignment of the 49ers. This has aroused concerns about the financial commitment of the York family. Said that criticism calls him cheap, York raised his shoulders: “I was called worse.”

York noted that his family has 97% of the deductible and plans to add external partners, apparently a 10% participation in an evaluation of $ 9 billion. “It’s no longer a family conversation. The largest expenditure of operating players is to come, for a player that the 49ers found with the 262nd and last choice of the 2022 draft.

“When you find a quarter of the top 10 that can help you will continue to win football matches, you have to make this decision,” added York. “If you do this, it has consequences. I don’t know if we were the oldest League team last year, but we were one of the oldest; we were one of the most injured teams. You must become younger and better and make sure you build around a nucleus and that’s what we are trying to do.”
