Shopper sparks outrage after ‘paying $7 for a single apple’

An apple a day keeps the doctor away – but at this point, medical bills might be cheaper.

A Boston-based influencer has sparked outrage over inflation after claiming she paid $7 for a single apple at Whole Foods.

The woman, who goes by the name @via..li, posted a video about her expensive purchase on her page, which has since been reshared on various social media platforms.

The clip has now been removed from the shopper’s own account, but it showed her taking the apple out of a bag after leaving an unidentified Whole Foods store.

“I literally just shopped at Whole Foods and looked at this,” she raged. “Guess how much it costs. It’s an apple, it’s apparently called a fucking Sugarbee apple and look at it.

“The size of my palm. I thought it was probably 2-3 dollars. I scanned the fucking shit, I scanned it – 7 fucking dollars, 7! »

The Whole Foods website lists the organic Sugarbee apple for $3.99 per pound in most Boston zip codes, although prices may vary by outlet.

In the clip, the TikToker insisted the apple cost $7 and said she even checked the price with a store employee.

“Really, what economy are we all living in that it costs $7 to buy an apple?” she asked. “I could have sworn another apple like the one I bought didn’t cost 7 fucking dollars. Is that crazy, like $7 for a latte? ALL RIGHT. This apple better taste this good.

Many viewers were outraged by the price paid for the product, with one in writing: “Even crazier when you realize that this represents almost an entire hour of work for some people, even in the United States. Imagine working a whole hour in exchange for an apple…”

“$7 for anything that grows on trees is wild,” another declared.

However, there were questions about whether the TikTokker’s story was legitimate.

“They cost 3.99 a pound,” they say. declared. “On average, one pound will give you 2 to 3 apples. Maybe his anxiety was weighing on the scales.

Others criticized the customer for paying for the fruit, saying she should have left it in the store.

“Buy at Walmart instead,” an unsympathetic commenter sarcastically.

“Jokes on her… she checked the price and bought it anyway,” another said.
