Shopify acquires Checkout Blocks, a payment personalization app

Commerce platform Shopify has acquired Checkout Blocks, allowing Shopify Plus merchants to make code-free customizations during checkout to improve the customer experience and potentially increase sales.

Checkout Blocks, which debuted on Shopify in September 2022, allow merchants to personalize their checkout by adding elements like AI recommendations, personalized content (like info banners, images, titles, etc.), personalized fields (such as gift messages or delivery notes). , discounts, email validation, personalized order status and thank you pages, and much more.

More than 850 merchants use Checkout Blocks, including brands like Olipop and Kosas. It is considered one of the most popular payment apps on Shopify.

Checkout Blocks founder Gil Greenberg, who shared news of the acquisition via X/Twitter, sees it as an opportunity to take his company to new heights. As part of the deal, the company is offering its Starter plan, initially priced at $99/month, free for all merchants on Shopify Plus, which starts at $2,300/month.

“From day one, our goal was to help as many Shopify merchants as possible personalize their checkouts. This acquisition allows us to succeed on an even larger scale,” Greenberg wrote.

Shopify did not disclose financial terms of the deal.
