Shooting reported near VCU in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. — Police responded to a report of a shooting near Virginia Commonwealth University on Tuesday, officials said, but it was not immediately clear if anyone was injured.
VCU said in an evening online alert that officers were at the scene in the Monroe Park area near campus and a major theater.
A VCU police spokesperson has referred an investigation to Richmond Police. City police spokeswoman Tracy Walker said she was attending the scene and had no specific details.
Matthew Stanley, a spokesperson for Richmond Public Schools, said by email that he did not have full details of what happened, but was able to confirm that an incident had taken place in Monroe Park after his graduation from high school.
Richmond Public Schools said on its website that another graduation scheduled for later Tuesday had been canceled “out of an abundance of caution.”
State police sent out an alert warning people to avoid the area.
