at Shueisha Weekly Shonen Jump will soon return for its first main issue of the new year, and with it will end one of its longest-running series as it reaches its climax. Shonen Jump has seen a whole bunch of changes leading up to 2024, with the year seeing a few new series really take off, like Takeru Hokazono’s. Kagurabachi, and some of its longest-running franchises ended with My Hero Academia And Jujutsu Kaisen publishing their final chapters. But it looks like there will already be another major ending for the magazine soon enough.

Shonen Jump ended a few of its series last year, and with previous updates, it looked like the next one on the list would be Hitsuji Gondaira’s. Mission: Yozakura Family. The series has been working on its final arc throughout 2024, and with the release of chapter 257 last week, Shueisha announced that the manga will reach its climax with the next issue. With only one chapter to go before the end (or maybe two more with a final epilogue chapter after that is possible), Mission: Yozakura Family is ready for the end.
How will Mission: The Yozakura Family end?
Mission: Yozakura Family spent 2024 fighting its final battles between the titular Yozakura family and Asa. With last year’s final chapters not only ending this fight once and for all, but preparing for the future, the Yozakura family is finally in the midst of their biggest mission yet. Taiyo and Mutsumi had gotten married during the time jump before the final arcs, but that wasn’t something fans got to see during the series. It looks like it was saved to create a perfect finale.
Mission: Yozakura Family Chapter 257 brought the series closer to this grand finale with the Cherry Blossom Vow Ceremony, a special wedding ceremony that brings the entire family (along with all their friends) together so that Taiyo and Mutsumi can officially renew their vows. Kyoichiro had held back because although he had come to accept Taiyo as a true husband to Mutsumi, he himself expected Mutsumi to be truly happy without the burden of the Yozakura family holding her back. With her now happy, they were both free to truly marry and throw one of their biggest parties yet.

What does this ending mean for Shonen Jump in 2025?
If Mission: Yozakura Family ends in just one or two more chapters, that means Shonen Jump is about to lose another one of its legacy series. The only ones left in the magazine with truly long print runs are those by Eiichiro Oda. One piece and that of Yoshihiro Togashi Hunter x Hunter, And Mission: Yozakura Family is the last series from the 2010s to remain running in the magazine. The series that remained standing subsequently will all come from the 2020s with that of Yoshifumi Tozuka. Undead, bad luckthat of Yuto Suzuki Sakamoto Days, and that of Shuhei Miyazaki Me and Roboco being the next oldest with their debut in 2020.
This would be the end of yet another era for the magazine, and only the most recent series will remain weekly. This kicks off a new look for the magazine and opens the door for many other series that could potentially get their fair share of fans with successful series of their own. It remains to be seen what the next big series will be.
