Ellen Ellen Pompeo will always give her the truth, clear and simple.
This is why Rhimes admitted with love with her speech on Tuesday during the Fame of Fame ceremony of Pompeo to Hollywood Walk of Fame that when she met the actress two decades ago at a lunch meeting, she was “a little terrified” of her.
“After this lunch, I went home and I literally wrote in my newspaper – I did it -” This girl is a Spitfire, she will expose you with the truth, the top, the bottom and the “”, said Rhimes. “I was absolutely delighted and a little terrified because it is rare to meet someone like her.”
Rhimes continued by saying that “very few people are really what they present, but Ellen is exactly what she says is, and you are unique.”
Pompeo and Rhimes date back at least in 2005 when “Gray’s Anatomy” made its debut on ABC. The drama of the network follows the life of Meredith Gray, played by Pompeo, a surgeon at the fictitious hospital in Seattle Grace Mercy West.
The series is currently in its 21st season with Pompeo who always leads the charge as a titular character. It is the oldest medical drama on television, beating “ER”, which took place from 1994 to 2009.
Rhimes explained on Tuesday how, even if, as a showrunner and writer, she created the character of Meredith Gray, Pompeo “is” but, she added, “she is the best when she is simply herself”.
“She is fierce, funny and thoughtful and attentive. She is a businesswoman, a talented actor, a nice friend and a great mother,” she said. “And I don’t care who you are, even if you are the most powerful show on television, if you get out of the Ellen line will tell you about you!”
Pompeo “lives and breathes the truth,” said Rhimes, “and it has become my favorite thing.”
