Shohei Ohtani confirmed that wife Mamiko Tanaka had given birth to their first child together, the couple welcoming a little girl.
The superstar of the Dodgers wrote on Instagram: “Welcome to the Ohtani family!” I am so grateful to my loving wife who gave birth to our beautiful little girl in good health.
“To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous but super anxious parents.
“I also want to thank the organization Dodgers, my teammates and the fans for their constant support and their kind words of encouragement.
“I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all health professionals and to all those who have dedicated their support to us, until this wonderful day.”
Ohtani was absent from the opening of the Dodgers series against the Texas Rangers Friday after manager Dave Robert revealed that he was placed on the MLB paternity list.
The 30 -year -old, who saw a very private life far from baseball, amazed the world last year when he revealed that he was married in a shock instagram post.
He also posted at the end of December that he and Tanaka – a former 28 -year -old professional basketball player from his native Japan – expected a baby in 2025.
Ohtani can miss up to three games on paternity leave. The Texas three -game game series ends on Sunday, before visiting the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.
