- The two men were reportedly arrested upon arrival in Hawaii, with Southwest Airlines praising the calm response from staff and passengers.
Shocking footage has captured the moment two men got into a nasty mid-air fight on a Southwest Airlines flight to Hawaii.
Passengers could be heard pleading with the men to calm down, before one of them was manhandled by another airman.
The plane, which took off from Oakland, California, was in flight over the Pacific Ocean when the fight began, but it completed its journey and avoided an emergency landing.
The two men were reportedly arrested after landing in Hawaii.
It’s unclear what exactly started the fight, with the footage beginning with one of the men lightly slapping the other in the face.
The slap was quickly answered with a frenzy of punches, several landing squarely on the other man’s face.
After delivering a series of blows to the first man’s jaw, the furious passenger stops for a moment while others grab his arms and urge him to stop.
As the passengers are gradually separated, one attacker can be heard telling the other to “come over here”, before a worried-looking passenger telling him “it’s not worth it”.
“Take it easy, take it easy,” another passenger could be heard saying from the rear of the plane.
The hostile situation eventually calmed when a man wearing a blue hoodie restrained the man and ordered him to “stop,” while moving him to the rear of the plane.
Witnesses told Hawaii News Now the fight broke out about an hour after the flight left California.
“I heard screams, screams and punches. I turned around and saw one man bleeding and then the other man being separated,” passenger Jim Wieder told the outlet.
“Honestly, I was a little nervous because we’re at 35,000 feet and you have two guys throwing punches at each other, which makes no sense.”
Despite mid-flight altercations often resulting in emergency landings, the pilot decided to continue to land on Kauai.
Both men were arrested upon arrival, but it is unclear if charges have been laid.
Southwest Airlines said in a statement: “We commend our crew and customers for their professionalism in handling this situation.
“The flight landed safely at its intended destination and local authorities welcomed the flight upon its arrival.”
