When the police interviewed her in the hospital, she said she had been abducted by two Hispanic women who kept her face hidden behind masks. Sherri confirms in the docuseries that she spoke with Reyes, and could even have mentioned by passing a plan to meet, but never consented to leave. His psychologist, Dr. Stephen Diggs, says in the series that Sherri suffers from a self -destructive personality disorder, which makes her sensitive to pleasant behavior. Diggs says it could explain why Sherri continued to communicate with Reyes and could even agree to meet him by phone. In the docuseries, Sherri even tries to recreate his abduction, but says that the exercise does not make memories.

Sherri maintains that even if she lied about a lot, she is not lining about her interactions with Reyes. For the docuseries, Sherri spent a polygraph saying that she had not asked her to mark her.
