Shark attack, West Beach: Teenager attacked by six-foot-long shark during family fishing trip – as shocking details emerge of moments before predator attack

A teenager was rushed to hospital with leg injuries after being attacked by a shark.

Nathan Ness, 16, was bitten off West Beach, near Adelaide, South Australia, at 1:40 p.m. on Sunday.

He brought a six-foot shark into his boat during a fishing trip with his father, Michael Ness, and two younger siblings.

But things went horribly wrong when the teenager tried to pose for a photo with the shark he had caught about four kilometers offshore at Glenelg Tire Reef.

Nathan Ness, 16, was bitten at 1.40pm on Sunday at West Beach, near Adelaide, South Australia.

Mr Ness, 46, said his son grabbed the tail and reeled it into the boat.

“He then went to pick it up for a photo and as he was picking it up he turned around and grabbed his leg,” he told Adelaide Now.

“I saw the shark latching on to him and I saw pieces of blubber coming out of his leg… it was horrible.”

The teenager shouted “take it off, take it off” before his father leaned in, opened his mouth and let go.

“I started the boat and brought it back while Nathan was on the phone with the ambulance.”

He then wrapped “old school pants” around the two large gashes on his leg.

SA Ambulance paramedics treated the 16-year-old boy at the scene.

It is understood the boy was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a stable condition.

This follows a spate of shark sightings this month.
