Shannen Doherty Agreed to Finalize Divorce From Kurt Iswarienko One Day Before Her Death

Shannen Doherty agreed to finalize her divorce from her ex-husband, Kurt Iswarienko, the day before his death.

According to People magazine, the former “Beverly Hills, 90210” actress filed paperwork to waive spousal support on Friday. She died at the age of 53 on Saturday.

The former couple reportedly agreed in the documents to a “dissolution by default or without contest” of their marriage.

Iswarienko, 50, signed the papers Saturday, the day Doherty died of stage IV cancer.

Doherty filed for divorce from Iswarienko in April 2023 following allegations that he cheated on her, which he denied.

The Charmed star accused Iswarienko of having an affair during their 12-year marriage. The couple married in 2011.

She claimed to have discovered his infidelity in January 2023 before undergoing surgery to remove a tumor from her brain.

“Not being part of that operation, even though, in being very clear, he wanted to go, I couldn’t be part of that operation with him there,” Doherty said on his podcast, “Let’s Be Clear,” in December.

“I felt so betrayed,” she continued. “Ultimately, I felt incredibly unloved by someone I had been with for 14 years, by someone I loved with all my heart. Just having to go through health crises while trying to figure out if I’m going to get divorced and trying to figure out the truth.”

Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. She went into remission in 2017, but in February 2020, she announced that she had stage 4 breast cancer.

The “Heathers” actress dealt with her contentious divorce in the last year of her life.

Last month, Doherty claimed in court documents that Iswarienko was delaying their divorce and delaying his child support payments until after his death.

She said at the time that she was not provided with financial information about her ex’s “archive” of photographs.

“It is simply not fair that Kurt is allowed to drag out our divorce in the hopes that I die before he is obligated to pay me while he continues to live his life and evade his responsibilities to his dying wife of over 11 years,” Doherty wrote in the filing, according to Page Six.

But Iswarienko denied Doherty’s allegations and insisted he wanted to finalize the divorce in September 2023, when he offered Doherty a settlement deal that she declined.

According to Page Six, Doherty rejected Iswarienko’s settlement agreement because it “skirted questions about his original works created during (their) marriage” and how much he earned.

Doherty allegedly asked Iswarienko to pay her $15,343 per month in spousal support and an additional $9,100 to cover her attorneys’ fees. She also asked for $11,800 for additional costs she incurred “in her efforts to obtain full answers from Kurt” in their court proceedings.

The “Our House” star said in the June filings that her income would “significantly” decrease this year because she was unable to work due to her cancer.

After Doherty’s death, her friend Tara Furiani, a business consultant who runs a company called Not the HR Lady, criticized Iswarienko in a LinkedIn post.

“I am truly sad and upset about the death of my friend Shannen… because of the divorce she was going through at the time,” Furiani wrote. She said Iswarienko caused Doherty “profound” pain and suffering by failing to act like a “decent human being” and showing “not a bit of humanity to his dying wife.”

“Shan lost everything (including her SAG insurance) and her husband was dragging his feet to get her income information in court, in an attempt to delay a judgment or payment, until his death (when it would now be moot),” the post also states.

Iswarienko was Doherty’s third husband.

She was previously married to Rick Salomon from 1993 to 1994 and to Ashley Hamilton from 2002 to 2003.

The beloved actress said on her podcast in December that even though she had “failed three times in marriage,” she still believed in love.

“I also take some responsibility for the end of our marriage,” she added, referring to her relationship with Iswarienko. “Actually, that’s not true. Let me rephrase that. I don’t take responsibility for the end of our marriage, I take responsibility for some of the problems in our marriage.”

Doherty did not have children with either of her ex-husbands.
