Shailene Woodley (“Big Little Lies”) should be the head “A Beautiful Journey”, a feature film-dramatic in the English language of the French writer-director Nathalie Marchak (“Out of Instinct”)).
“To Beautiful Journey” is produced by the anonymous federation, a joint venture between the studios of anonymous content and federation, and Gabman, the company founded by Valerie Garcia, which previously co-directed one of the main distribution shingles of France, Mars Films.
Rosalie Cimino, former high -level agent of the company based in Paris UBBA, will produce on behalf of the anonymous federation, while Garcia will produce on behalf of Gabman. Main photography will start in the fall.
Woodley will play Mary, a former swimming champion who now works like a mermaid at the New York Aquarium, has trouble raising her 7 -year -old son Lulu, alone. When they are expelled to protect him, she claims that they are about to embark on a beautiful trip. But in doing so, she starts to lose – and finally to be – herself. Marchak wrote the script for “A Beautiful Journey” with the support of a Spende writing scholarship. The script was included on the inaugural list of Cannes scenarios, an initiative highlighting the scripts of exceptional features of women and non -binary storytellers.
“Working with Shailene Woodley is a dream,” said Marchak, whose first feature film, “Out of Instinct”, was theatrically released in 2017. “She is a really cinematographic force – her fearless honesty and her radiant depth will light the screen as she will lead us through the tender, turbulent and ultimately transformer of Mary.”

His immense talent will illuminate our film and bring Nathalie’s vision with our audience.
Cimino said: “The script touched Woodley intimately and she loved it.” The couple also noted that the actor had already delivered a revolutionary performance as a young mother in “Big Little Lies”, which earned him an appointment to the Emmy. “We did not want to tell her about her role in` Big Little Lies ”, but it was her manager who said: “ Shailene has already played the role of a mother and she is a fan of the script, she wants to meet you, she wants to meet Nathalie! ”
The producer said that she and Garcia were currently in Cannes and worked on collecting film financing and aimed to start filming in the fall. The film will shoot mainly in Europe, in addition to a few days in New York for the outdoor scenes, said Garcia.
“A beautiful trip” will be the first time that Mark Woodley will have been working on a French project. Woodley played his first major role in 2008 with “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and later played in “The Descendants”, the franchise “Divergente” and “The Fault in our stars”. The actress is also a note from the environmentalist and political activist who made the headlines in 2016 for her arrest while protesting against the Dakota access pipeline.
By putting Woodley on board for the film, Cimino said that his long -standing relationships with managers and agents have helped, but above all, it comes back to “very good script”. “Once a good script is starting to circulate in an agency or a management company, the actors want good scripts. They want good stories, they want roles they can defend,” she said.
Marchak, who holds an LL.M of the Harvard Law School and a cinema certificate from New York University, previously wrote and produced the television series “The whistlers” and is vice-president of France Guild of Authors, Directors and Producers (ARP). An additional key cast and the international sales agent will be announced in the coming days.
