Severe thunderstorms possible in Chicago area again – NBC Chicago

Rain and thunderstorms that have affected the Chicago area are expected to end Sunday morning, but a threat of severe storms will appear again in the evening.

According to forecast models, these showers and thunderstorms are expected to ease as the morning progresses, with mostly cloudy conditions expected.

Windy conditions are also forecast, with high temperatures reaching the mid-70s across much of the region, with cooler temperatures possible near the Wisconsin border.

After sunset, the National Weather Service warns that there is a risk of severe storms in the region, with an emphasis on the city’s western and southwest suburbs. The main threats appear to be isolated winds and hail, although officials warn that a “brief tornado cannot be ruled out.”

According to the Storm Prediction Center, there is a “marginal risk” of severe weather, with McHenry, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, LaSalle, Kendall and Grundy counties all included in this forecast area. Parts of Will and Kankakee counties could also be affected, according to the SPC.

Even if severe storms do not develop, the chance for showers and thunderstorms will persist through the night and into Monday morning, with heavy rain and gusty winds possible across the region. Low temperatures are expected to drop into the 60s.

Monday will start with scattered showers, but the threat of rain should ease throughout the day. High temperatures are expected to hover around 70 degrees, according to forecast models.
