Several people are fighting for their lives in hospital after being pulled from Lake Solihull

Several people were left in critical condition in hospital after being pulled from a lake in Solihull on Sunday, apparently after playing on its frozen surface.
West Midlands Police have been called to the scene at Babbs Mill Park in Kingshurst where a number of people were pulled from a lake and taken to hospital in freezing temperatures and freezing conditions.
The force said it was called to a “serious incident” just before 4 p.m. and those rescued so far “would be in critical condition”.
The West Midlands Fire Service and the West Midlands Ambulance Service also have a strong presence on the scene.

The incident is believed to have happened just before 3pm on Sunday.
Firefighters said reports at the scene and videos on social media indicated that people had played on the ice of a pond and had fallen.
West Midlands Police tweeted: ‘A number of people have been pulled from a lake and are being taken to hospital.
“They are believed to be in critical condition.”
At least two dozen rescue workers are still on site. Photos appear to show at least two fire engines, six paramedics or ambulances and several police cars present.
Photos from the scene show rescuers dressed in light-coloured clothing on the surface of the lake as they continue to search for anyone still trapped.
At least one drone has been deployed above the researchers, who are working in a green boat.
Meanwhile, police were seen carrying a large tarp to and from the lake as they loaded up the equipment needed by lifeguards.

Emergency service vehicles were parked all along Fordbridge Road and on the Stonebridge Crescent estate.
Eyewitnesses at the scene saw emergency service boats being used on the lake as rescue efforts continue.
Rescue efforts are taking place amid freezing temperatures as Solihull hit 0C late Sunday afternoon.
A police cordon is in place around the lake as rescue efforts continue into the evening.
The exact cause of the incident is currently unknown.
The West Midlands Fire Service confirmed he was called to the scene at 2.36pm on Sunday.
In a statement, the service said, “Reports at the scene and videos on social media indicate people had been playing on the ice of a pond and falling through.”
“Our specialist water rescue teams arrived and acted confidently to take control of the scene and carry out rescues using specialist equipment and entering the water.
“The victims received medical assistance at the scene from fire and ambulance personnel before being taken to nearby hospitals.
“The incident is still a search and rescue operation, led by the West Midlands Fire Service.
“We are asking people to allow the emergency services at the scene to do their job safely and efficiently.”
Video from the scene shows dozens of 999 responders working by the lake, using bright lights to try to illuminate the scene.
The West Midlands Fire Service has previously said its Christmas carol concert at St Martin’s Church in Birmingham has been canceled ‘due to an ongoing incident’.
Babbs Mill Park is a local nature reserve with a lake, river, wildflower meadows and woodland.
