Sesame Street heads to Netflix after Trump was fired

Sesame Street and Netflix have concluded an agreement that will see the popular television show appear on the streaming platform, after US President Donald Trump was funding for the free PBS channel.

Netflix said the emblematic program is a “cornerstone loved by children’s media, enchanted young minds and nourishing a love for learning”.

Since later this year, Netflix will offer its 300 million subscribers a new season of the show and 90 hours of previous episodes, while being available on PBS.

Sesame Street was also faced with an uncertain future after the Warner Bros Discovery entertainment giant, owner of the HBO platform, did not renew its agreement with the half-century program.

Earlier this month, Trump published an executive decree to block federal funding for PBS and Radio Network NPR, alleging that they were delivering to “biased and partisan information coverage”.

The Government Body Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which supported the two broadcasters, has since announced the dismissal of a federal initiative which has financed programs for children, including SESAME Street.

As part of the agreement, PBS will have access to the episodes of Sesame Street the same day that they will be published on Netflix.

In the late 1960s, the co -founders of Sesame Street Lloyd Morrisett and Joan Ganz Cooney approached the Graduate School of Education from Harvard University with a new way of teaching American children.

A team led by a development psychologist worked with the founders of Sesame to analyze childhood psychology and produce entertainment lessons.

They worked with the creator of Muppets Jim Henson to create characters like Big Bird, with a set made to look like an urban street.

Since its first broadcast on November 10, 1969, millions of children have grown up with the song of the show “Can you tell me how to get, how to go to Sesame Street?”

Over the decades, the program and its characters have acquired a life beyond the small screen.

The popular character Elmo entered the projectors of public policy in 2002, when he was invited to discuss musical education in the congress.

During an epidemic of obesity of children in the United States in 2006, Sesame Street disseminated segments of health habits designed to teach children diet and exercise.

The cookie monster declared the cookies “sometimes food” and taught children a balanced diet.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama also visited Sesame studios to film a segment on a healthy diet.

Netflix has increased its emphasis on the content of children, which represents 15% of visualization on its service.

He also announced Tuesday that new episodes of Peppa Pig and a mobile game with puzzles and coloring activities came to the platform.

The animated show is focused on the adventures of a four -year -old porcelet called Peppa who lives with his family in a fictitious British city.
