Alicia Silverstone is attached to resume the role of Cher Horowitz in a series in a row “distraught” in Peacock, Variety learned.
The show is currently in development. The exact details of the plot are kept under the envelopes because the show will follow the classic cult film.
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are attached to writing with Jordan Weiss. All three will produce executive products, with Schwartz and Savage doing it under their false Empire banner. Silverstone will produce in addition to playing. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the film, and Robert Lawrence, who produced the film, also serve as executive producers. CBS Studios will produce in association with Universal Television.
This is an entirely new “undoubtedly” series than the one that had been installed in Peacock in 2020 but which was not ultimately before. This show, with a completely different creative team, was described as more mysteries series in which Dear has disappeared and focused rather on her best friend, Dionne.
“Clueless” initially made its debut in 1995 and was vaguely based on the novel by Jane Austen “Emma”. With Silverstone, the cast included Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, Elisa Donovan, Breckin Meyer and Dan Hedaya. A television adaptation was broadcast on ABC then UPN from 1996 to 1999 for three seasons, Rachel Blanchard playing Dear.
It would not be the first time that Silverstone resumed the role of dear in recent years. She played the beloved character in an ad from the Super Bowl in 2023 for Rakuten. The film helped to propel Silverstone for the Cinema La Celete, with the actress by playing in features like “Batman & Robin”, “Blast from the past” and “Beauty Shop”. His recent television credits include “American Horror Stories”, “The Baby-Sitters Club” and “American Woman”. Among his upcoming projects are the film Yorgos Lanthimos “Bugonia” and the Acorn television series “Irish Blood”. Silverstone is also the producer of this last project.
It is remitted by UTA, a title entertainment and a gang tire.
Schwartz and Savage are perhaps best known for having co-created the successful series “Gossip Girl” and an executive producing the recent restart at Max. Their other credits include “Research for Alaska”, “OC”, “Runaways”, “Hart of Dixie”, the “Dynasty”, and “Nancy Drew” restart. The pair recently co-created the drama Apple TV + “City on Fire”, based on the novel of the same name of Garth Risk Hallberg.
They are replaced by WME and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.
Weiss recently wrote the script for the long -awaited suite “Freaker Friday”, who will see Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis resume their roles from the 2003 film. She also created the Hulu series “Dollface” and wrote and directed the original Max film “Sweethearts”.
She is revamped by Uta, Mosaic and Felker Toczek.
With the return of Silverstone to “Clueless”, this is the last example of an actor who returns to an emblematic character from the 90s in a streaming show. Among the other recent examples, let us quote Sarah Michelle Gellar using the role of Buffy in a follow -up pilot “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” in Hulu and a large part of the “Malcolm in the Middle” meeting in Disney +.
