Roma’s Serie A clash with Udinese was abandoned after Roma defender Evan Ndicka collapsed on the ball.

Ndicka was sent off by the medical staff in the 74th minute of the match on Sunday and the decision was made to abandon the match.

The 24-year-old was seen falling to the ground holding his chest while Roma were in possession.

The match was 1-1 when he was suspended.

Players and staff from both teams spoke to officials before making a decision. Supporters of both clubs applauded the decision.

The nature of Ndicka’s health issue has not been confirmed, but players have already received a number of well-wishes.

One said: “Thoughts and prayers with Evan Ndicka.”

Another said: “Thoughts are with Ndicka, his friends and family as he collapsed on a stretcher due to a collapse on the field. Get well soon.”

This fan said: “Forza Evan Ndicka! We are all with you bro.”

While another added: “Prayers for Ndicka.”

Udinese took the lead through a goal scored by former Watford man Roberto Pereyra before Romelu Lukaku leveled the match shortly before Ndicka was brought down.

Roma entered the match in fifth place, four points behind fourth-placed Bologna.
