Domestic stock markets finished higher for the second day in a row on Tuesday amid gains in global markets, although investors remained cautious over concerns over the Omicron variant of COVID-19. The 30-stock index finished 477.2 points or 0.8% higher at 57,897.5 and the broader benchmark Nifty50 came in at 17,233.3, up 147 points or 0 , 9% from its previous closing.
Gains across sectors, led by financials, IT and oil and gas stocks, pushed major indexes higher.
Nifty Bank was up 0.3%. The mid-cap index closed with strong gains of 1%. Mphasis, PI Ind, Divi were the best winners.
Only 3 Nifty Stocks – Indusind Bank, ICICI & Power Grid – finished in the red. HDFC Bank, SBI and Axis Bank kept Nifty Bank in the green today.
Sun Pharma finished at the top of the winners after obtaining the EUA for the anti-COVID pill Molnupiravir in India.
The PVR fell 4% after new restrictions were imposed on Delhi.
The market breath, meanwhile, was strongly in favor of advances with a lead-to-drop ratio of 4: 1.
In contrast, the rupee closed at 74.65 against the dollar.
