Senior officials supervising deportations leave their roles to Ice

Several immigration and customs leaders leave their roles, the agency announced on Thursday in the third major change among its leaders in recent months.

Kenneth Genalo, the senior Ice Expulsion Responsible, retires; Garrett Ripa leaves his job as MP for Mr. Genalo to resume a role of regional leadership in Florida; And the person who directs the agency’s internal security surveys, Robert Hammer, moves to another job at ICE, said the announcement.

The Trump administration has struggled to respond to the campaign promises of President Trump for mass deportations, struggling with a lack of in -depth resources despite efforts to bring personnel from other parts of the federal law application.

One of Mr. Trump’s best immigration officials, Tom Homan, said on several occasions that the agency had to make more and that he wanted to see more arrests.

“I am not satisfied with the figures,” Homan told journalists on Thursday. “We have to increase.”

The announcement comes one day after Stephen Miller, a senior White House official, told Fox News that the White House was looking for ice to stop 3,000 people a day, a major increase in the application. The agency had arrested more than 66,000 people in the first 100 days of the Trump administration, an average of around 660 arrests per day.

“We are trying to set an objective of a minimum of 3,000 arrests for ice each day, and President Trump will continue to push to obtain this number higher every day,” said Miller.

Internal security officials said that the moves on Thursday were intended to help Trump ‘promises in immigration.

“Organizational realignments will help ice to make President Trump and the Mandate of the American people for the arrest and expulsion of illegal criminal foreigners and to return American communities to security,” said the ministry’s announcement.

In February, Ice has moved two senior officials Supervise deportation efforts. Shortly after, the agency’s interim director, Caleb Vitello, was also withdrawn from his role.

“I say that with a complete understanding that the change is difficult – but know that our entire management team is there to support you,” wrote Todd Lyons, Ice’s acting leader, wrote to the staff in an e -mail obtained by the New York Times. “I am proud to work alongside each of you, and I will always have their backs.”
