Audio had previously discussed criticism, telling CNN in Espanol in an interview on January 15: “If there are things that seem shocking Emilia Pérez So I’m sorry. Cinema does not provide answers, it only asks questions … but perhaps the questions Emilia Pérez are incorrect.
Gascón, however, challenged the criticism of the film to go make their own film. “Being lgbtq, having these labels, does not remove your stupidity, just as heterosexuality does not remove your stupidity,” she said Vanity in December. “What bothers me is that people who say things like that (are) just sitting at home by doing nothing … Go create the representation you want to see for your community.”
Meanwhile, none of these above elements prevented the film from accumulating distinctions, including an appointment to the Oscars at the head of the field.
“What shocked me was that people have not seen the film properly, they have not seen it at all and act in bad faith,” Audiard in Deadline told an interview published on February 5. “The representation of cartels in the film is thematic. It is not something on which I am particularly concentrated in the film. There is a scene that deals with it.”
The opera, he stressed, requires strong stylization. “It seems that I was attacked before the realism court,” he said. “Well, I never said that I wanted to do a realistic job.”
If he had a regret, noted Audiard, it was that they did not turn to Mexico, but the financing options were simply better in France.
