Selena Gomez cries after standing ovation at Cannes Film Festival

Selena Gomez felt the love at the Cannes Film Festival.

The 31-year-old actress and singer was moved to tears after her new film, “Emilia Perez,” received a 9-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday.

It was the longest standing ovation for a film premiere at France’s cinema festival so far this year.

A video from Variety shows Gomez smiling and in tears as the crowd cheers after watching her performance in the film.

Directed by Jacques Audiard, “Emilia Perez” tells the story of a Mexican cartel leader, played by Karla Sofía Gascón, who seeks gender affirmation surgery.

Gomez plays Gascón’s on-screen wife.

Zoe Saldana and Edgar Ramirez also star in the musical crime comedy.

Gomez arrived at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday in a stunning black velvet dress with a draped white satin neckline. She accessorized her look with a diamond necklace and diamond earrings.

The “Lose You to Love Me” singer wore an off-the-shoulder red dress with matching red heels to the film’s photocall and press conference on Sunday.

Gomez told Variety at the festival that she was drawn to “Emilia Perez” once she read the script.

“It was gripping, it was heartbreaking, it really moved me,” she said.

The Grammy-nominated artist also enjoyed singing in the film, telling Variety: “I had a blast and I love the songs. I think they are really beautiful.

Gomez has put aside her music career in favor of acting in recent years. She stars in the Hulu comedy series “Only Murders in the Building” which returns for season 4 in August. She is also set to make an appearance in the “Wizard of Waverly Place” spinoff series, titled “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” which she also produces.

On the big screen, Gomez’s next big project is playing Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic.

Gomez told Variety in Cannes that she was “taking a little break” before beginning production on the project.

As for her music, Gomez revealed on the “SmartLess” podcast earlier this year that she only has one album left in her.

“I’m going to want to relax because I’m tired,” she said. “I wanted to be an actress, I never really intended to be a singer full time but apparently that hobby turned into something else. I don’t think I’m the best singer, but I know how to tell stories and I love being able to create songs.

“Emilia Perez” does not yet have a release date in the United States, but comes out in France on August 28.
