See Selena Gomez in ‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’ Photos

Before the release of the highly anticipated the Wizards of Waverly Place revival this fall, fans will get their first look at the reboot. On Monday, May 14, Selena Gomez — who will return as Alex Russo alongside her TV brother David Henrie — shared a sneak peek at the ABC and Disney Upfronts event at the Javits Center in New York City. In addition to revealing the official name of the reboot, Wizards beyond Waverly Place, The series’ executive producer opened up about how “excited” she is for the upcoming project.

“Sometimes something magical happens when you go home,” Gomez told the crowd. Shortly after the announcement, Disney released an official plot synopsis and the first photos from Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

In the first photo, Gomez and Henrie, who will reprise his role as Justin Russo, brandish their wands, hinting at a return to their magical roots. A second image showed the small screen siblings with other protagonists from the the Wizards of Waverly Place reboot, including Janice LeAnn Brown, Mimi Gianopulos, Alkaio Thiele and Max Matenko. In the photo, the group can be seen sitting around a kitchen table with a “31” birthday cake on it.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Placewhich will be released 12 years after the end of the four seasons of the Disney Channel original series, will follow Justin, “who has chosen to lead a normal, mortal life with his family, Giada, Roman and Milo”, according to a Disney synopsis released on the 14 May after Gomez’s appearance.

However, Justin’s plans for normalcy are jeopardized when Alex brings Billie (LeAnn Brown) to help him train in magic.

“Justin realizes he must dust off his magical skills to mentor the wizard-in-training while juggling his daily responsibilities and safeguarding the future of the wizarding world,” Disney explained.

The series is set to premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+ this fall, so it’s likely fans will receive more teasers (and preview photos) before its release.
