Friday, Texas published two years of notes for school districts, ending a long legal battle on the AF rating system which helps parents determine the best schooling options for their children.

The Texas Education Agency marks districts and campuses with notes of letters to give the families of Texas an idea of the way they teach students. Out of the approximately 1,200 districts marked during the 2024-25, 14% school year, obtained an A, 71% obtained a B or a C, and 15% obtained an D or an F.

The release of the latest notes comes after certain districts continued tea on changes in rating standards. The 15th Court of Appeal canceled last month a lower justice decision which had prevented tea from making school performance scores for the public of the 2023-24 school year. The ratings for school years 2023-24 and 2024-25 were made available on Friday at the same time.

School performance notes can help parents decide in which schools to enroll their children and help companies decide in which community to invest. Critics often say that districts in low -income communities, which tend to have fewer resources.

Texas notes the districts and each of their campuses on an AF scale based on three categories:

  • Realization of students: To what extent their students carry out standardized state tests and if they are ready for life after high school.
  • School progress: How many students improve on state tests.
  • Close the gaps: How many schools were progressing to increase scores for specific groups of children, such as students with special needs and learners in English.

Look for your neighborhood or school to see how they did it below:
