Security guard accused of deadly shooting of the dean of Spartan College

The security guard generally arrived at the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology to the sound of aircraft roaring above.

He started his work quarter later on the day on campus near the Los Angeles International Airport, according to the students, and wore a blue shirt in Col as part of his uniform.

But Friday, the goalkeeper, later identified as Jesse Figueroa, 40, would have been armed with a handgun he had used to shoot two women – one of them fatally, said the authorities.

The Los Angeles County prosecutor’s office charged on Tuesday, Figueroa, attempted murder, possession of a firearm with previous violent convictions and possession of a firearm by a criminal with previous convictions.

The victims, two employees of the college, were killed in an administrative building, according to the authorities. A woman – who was injured but survived – worked at the admissions office. The other was Cameisha Clark, who had recently been promoted to dean of student affairs, according to his family.

Police who arrived found the two injured women who breathe and always aware. They were taken to local hospitals while the police searched the campus shooter.

Figueroa fled the premises in his car and was placed in police custody less than three hours later in Koreatown, according to the authorities.

A victim of the shooting remains in the hospital. But Clark died on Monday from his injuries to the Harbor-Ucla Medical Center, according to his family. She was 35 years old.

Clark arrived in California several years ago to continue his career, according to his family, who called him a pioneer and inspiration.

“Cameisha was the most compassionate, loving and fiercely faithful person,” his family said in a statement. “She was a radiant, joyful, motivated and compassionate woman who touched countless lives across the country of her hometown of Atlanta, Ga, in Los Angeles.”

Her family said her heritage should not be defined by her death but “by the extraordinary way she lived”.

Clark obtained his baccalaureate in psychology and his doctorate of master’s degree and his educational doctorate in the higher education of the Clark Atlanta University, according to the school, which recently presented it in an article of “Spotlight of the Ancients” on social networks.

“Came to have everyone lucky enough to cross their way,” said his family. “Its leadership, its integrity and its deep sense of the objective helped to shape the future of countless students from the Clark Atlanta University at the Spartan College. She believed in the potential of others even when they could not yet see him in themselves. ”

The authorities confirmed that Figueroa worked as a security guard for a third -party company at Inglewood campus, but has not revealed possible reason. The mayor of Inglewood, James Butts, described the episode an act of “violence at work” and not a random shooting.

The president of the Spartan College campus, Chris Becker, said that the school co -opted for the investigation.

“We are deeply saddened and upset by what happened,” said Becker over the weekend, adding that consulting services and support were organized for students and staff.

On Wednesday, there was little indication of the shooting outside the property of the college. School officials would not say if there was a memorial on the campus to honor the victims of the shooting.

The students said that they had seen Clark on campus from time to time and that she said hello while they were heading between industrial buildings.

“It’s really tragic,” said a student who only identified himself as Hector said the sidewalk outside the administrative building.

From the shooting, security has increased on campus and the courses remain in session, said other students.

Figueroa was found guilty of theft in 2007, according to the files. He was arrested for suspected assault with a deadly weapon and made a criminal threat in the same case, but these accusations were rejected due to a advocacy agreement, according to the judicial archives.

Prosecutors allege that Figueroa used a handgun to cause large bodily injuries or death. Improving the determination of the determination of firearms have an additional 25 -year sentence in life prison for each offense.

“Any student, member of the faculty or employee must feel safe to go to school,” Dist. Atty. Nathan Hochman said in a statement announcing the accusations.
