Second journalist dies at World Cup – media – RT Sport News

Qatari photojournalist Khalid Al-Misslam has been reported as the second journalist to die while covering the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The world of journalism was shocked for the first time on Friday when American football journalist Grant Wahl collapsed in the press box at Lusail Stadium and later died while covering Argentina’s dramatic win at the penalty shootout against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

Later in the weekend, it was reported that a photojournalist from Qatari channel Al Kass TV, Khalid Al-Misslam, had also died.

No further information has been released on Al-Misslam’s death, with Qatari newspaper The Gulf Times initially reporting the death and sending condolences to his family on social media.

“Al Kass TV photojournalist Khalid al-Misslam died recently. Al-Misslam, a Qatari, died suddenly while covering the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,” The Gulf Times tweeted Saturday afternoon.

“We believe in Allah’s mercy and forgiveness for him, and send our deepest condolences to his family.”

Al Kass TV only briefly discussed the death during a live broadcast, and it is said the broadcaster wants to wait for more details before issuing any statement about its employee.

The Qatar 2022 World Cup is set to conclude on Sunday with its final.

Before that, Argentina take on Croatia in the semi-finals on Tuesday, while underdogs Morocco take on defending champions France in the last four on Wednesday.
