Second Harvest wins OK from Big New San Jose Hq and Warehouse Hub

San Jose – The second harvest of Silicon Valley won the city’s approval to develop a modern head office and a warehouse in San Jose, a complex that will allow the food bank to continue to serve the public effectively.

The new head office and the warehouse will be made at 4553 and 4563 North First Street in the district of Alviso de North San Jose, according to town planning documents.

The original Harvest’s original proposal for its new complex was considering a 249,200 square feet project. The newly approved plans would produce a head office and a warehouse of around 215,700 square feet.

This represents about 13% less floor space than the first proposed.

The initial proposal of the food bank was blocked by a trial brought in 2022 against the project by Organizacion Comunidad de Alviso, a group of South Bay led by local activist Mark Espinosa.

The community group brought legal action against San Jose, saying that the city had made an error in the way it applied the provisions of the California environmental law to approval by the municipality of the proposed project.

In 2023, Organizacion Comunidad de Alviso, the applicant of the trial, made a request that the court rejects the trial with prejudice, according to court documents. The case was rejected.

The existing 10.5 -acres site where the new food bank proposed would be built is now vacant. The property is located on North First Street between Nortech Parkway and Bay Vista Drive,

The development proposal also envisages 315 parking spaces for vehicles at 315, up from the original plan for 161 spaces; and 21 bicycle parking spaces, up 14 spaces.

The number of employees, volunteers, vehicles, trucks or travel will not increase due to the plan to change plans, according to the food bank.

It was not immediately clear when the construction could start on the new installation.
