WARNING: Spoilers to come for seasons one and two of “House of the Dragon”.
HBO was betting big on the success of “House of the Dragon” long before the final of season two.
The network renewed the prequel to “Game of Thrones” centered on Targaryen for another round before the first season in June 2024, which featured the famous murder “Blood and Cheese”. Francesca Orsi, head of HBO drama, praised the team behind the successful fantasy series in the renewal announcement.
“George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, actors and crews, have reached new peaks with the second phenomenal season of House of the Dragon ”, said Orsi in a press release, referring to the creator George Rr Martin and the Showrunner Ryan Condal.” The creation of a spectacular two season, with a scope and a scale that are only competed by its heart. “
“We could not be more delighted to continue the story of the Targaryen house and watch this team burn again for season three,” she added.
Eight episodes later, “House of the Dragon”. Try his second season with a neat configuration for the action which is still to come. Here is everything we know about what will follow.

The showrunner Ryan Condal previously told journalists that the production of season three would start at the beginning of 2025. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly in early March, Condal confirmed that production was underway in the United Kingdom.
“There was no television program in the story that ever said:” We have too much money and too much time to do this “,” said Condal. “You always make decisions as you go, how are we going to use the resources we have at the moment to tell the best story that we can possibly tell? But I appreciate everyone’s patience.”
The veterans of “House of the Dragon” Clare Kilner, Andrij Parekh and Loni Peisterre will come back to direct the next eight episodes, by EW. They will be joined by Nina Lopez-Corrado.
Although HBO has not announced an official release date for season three, these production details suggest that a release date in 2026 is possible.
But don’t worry – you’ll have a lot of Westerosi drama to win with “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”, another spin -off “Games of Thrones” focused on the characters of Niche Dunk and the egg, which should arrive in 2025.

We cannot say with certainty, but there is at least a great battle on the horizon: the battle of the throat.
While speaking to EW, Condal promised that season three would “four major events” of books would cover books, including the pivotal naval assault on the Battle of the Goard, which requires significant production resources. And to fans who begged more action, rest assured: Condal guarantees a lot of bloodshed.
“In many ways, the throat has been in the spirit of production for about three years now and trying to understand how we were going to mount it in a way that is both productible and exciting, exciting,” Condal told EW.
“I would like to think that it is probably the most complex sequence that has ever been made for television,” he continued, “not necessarily the most expensive or longest filming or something like that, but simply based on the number of pieces in motion, the quantity of different disciplines, the media which must be mixed to succeed because you speak of sea and ships and dragons and action.”
With regard to the other three “major events” promised by the Condal, there is a lot of historical confrontation, beginnings and deaths that we can plan to occur in season three depending on what is happening in “Fire and Blood”, some of which have already been stained in the series. They understand Rhaenyra taking up King’s Landing, the youngest son of Alicent, Daeron Targaryen, finally entering the story, and the prophesied sockets of Daemon and Aemond. But “House of the Dragon” began to make daring adaptation choices – so everything could be on the horizon.
“We deduce this narrative parable here and start to descend, if not the end of the game, in the middle and to enter the end of act 2 and to pass at the beginning of Act 3,” Condal told EW. “Anyone who has read this book knows that the story becomes greater and darker as you go, and the show must correspond to this ambition as best it can.”
If you want an overview of what awaits us, you can get a “fire and blood” yourself. You will probably want to start somewhere in the chapter “The Dying of the Dragons: The Red Dragon and The Gold” to catch up with season two and read in advance for what could happen.

A press release from HBO confirmed the great players of the show – including Emma d’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen) (Jacaerys Velaryon), Bethany Antonia (Baela Targaryen), Phoebe Campbell (Rhaena Targaryen) Phia Saban (Helaena Targaryen), Sonoya Mizuno (Mysaria), Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower) and Fabien Frankel (Ser Criston Cole) – Will Retreer for season three.
As for newcomers, the star of “Gladiator”, Tommy Flanagan, was interpreted as Ser Roderick Dustin, known as “Roddy the Ruin” in the book, while an “unknown” actor Dan Fogler will play Torrhen Manderly. The two characters are great knights from the North, where the rules of the house.
Further south, James Norton will make his debut on the screen as an Ormund Hightower, Cousin of Alicent and Lord of Oldtown. The final of season two shows an overview that the army of Ormund was walking to counter the forces of Rhaenyra – accompanied by Daeron and his dragon Tessarion.
Other casting decisions have not yet been published. The chief of them is Daeron himself, who was sent back to a young age for Screy for Ormund to Oldtown.
Condal confirmed to Ew that Daeron will appear soon, but refused to say who will play him.
“It is a great feature in the book, but if you sequentially read the story of the book, the material that we have covered so far did not really have much call to Daeron, which is why we are getting there,” said Condal.
There is also the question of Nettles, a character of “Fire and Blood” who claims the Dragon Sheepstealer. In the final of season two of “House of the Dragon”, Rhaena finally appears on what we assume is the Dragon Sheeppstealer – but it remains to be seen if it successfully claims the Dragon and takes control of this story, or if the nettles will always appear.

Aegon, also known as Aegon the elder to reserve readers, undergoes almost fatal injuries during the Battle of season two at Rook rest, leaving him mainly motion.
In the final of season two, Lord Larys Strong organizes that Aegon secretly escapes King’s Landing in anticipation of the imminent coup of Rhaenyra. Of all the open questions of the final, the future of Aegon seems the most uncertain.
The details of the Aegon exile period are also troubled in “Fire and Blood” – but do not expect it to disappear from the screen. The Condal confirmed that the king in disgrace will continue to be “a large part of the program”.
“He’s a bit lost against history in the sense that no one really knows what happened,” Condal told EW. “We have taken this, as writers, as an excellent opportunity to understand it. It was one of the great challenges of the writing of season two: to determine something that would work and would be satisfactory, but also does not cause training effects in the story and change where the other big pieces go. Honestly, I think that is one of the best stories that we fell for this year.”
In an interview with Business Insider, Glynn-Carney also teased a trip fueled by revenge for Aegon in season three.
“Even if his physique has changed now, I do not think particularly for him, in terms of unpredictable way and how volatile he is – I don’t think that will change at all,” said the actor. “If anything, there will be more. So I can’t wait to resume season three and take it in this next chapter of his trip and push the limits even more with him this time.”

No! Condal has already confirmed that “House of the Dragon” will return for a fourth season, which will probably be his last, although HBO has not yet made an official announcement for this purpose.
An arc of four seasons seemed to be the plan for a while. George RR Martin said on his personal blog in October 2022 that he could not see “House of the Dragon” covering the whole dance of the dragons in less than four seasons.
“Is it four seasons? I do not think where I sit at this stage will be less than four,” said the chief of the HBO Francesca Orsi drama in 2023. “But could be more. We will see.”
