Screening more accurately identifies cases of preeclampsia, researchers say

A personalized screening technique predicts preeclampsia more accurately than current guidelines based on risk factors, suggests a recent study published in the journal Hypertension.

“A pregnancy complication marked by high blood pressure and signs of organ failure,” preeclampsia develops in about 1 in 25 pregnancies in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Worldwide, it is responsible for more than 70,000 maternal deaths and 500,000 fetal deaths each year.
