Scottish Grand National tips, odds, preview and free bets

The Scottish National comes quickly this year after the Aintree, which saw I Am Maximus clear, but attention turns to Ayr Racecourse where stablemate Macdermott is the favourite.

The Ayr favorites would be worthy winners of the Scottish revival, putting Willie Mullins in a dominant position for the title of British champion trainer.

Mullins trained domestic winner I Am Maximus and as a result placed himself as Britain’s champion trainer, having also won top prizes at the Cheltenham Festival.

The Irish trainer has two top contenders in Ayr who will go a long way in the race for champion trainer, with a total of £112,540 up for grabs for the winner.

He has both at the top of the market, in Macdermott a friendly six year old who might be good at bodybuilding.

And Mr. Incrediblean eight-year-old with a little more experience but who must lead 11-9 just seven days after his attempt without a seat at Aintree.

But with him not having a full course, it’s very possible he’s set for a quick turnaround to get him into the Scottish National, having been just 10/1 SP last week.

As always with these types of races, there are chances of higher prizes, with 30 runners set to take on the 4m course.

Tips for the Scottish Grand National

  • Mr. Incredible
  • My glimmer of hope

Mr. Incredible

He carries the second highest weight in the field as number 2, but the Mullins-trained horse cannot be stopped from running a better and bigger race than last week in a much weaker contest.

He was just 10/1 on Aintree day and although he has knocked down his rider twice in back-to-back Grand Nationals, the Scottish one is perhaps more to his liking.

He placed second to Beauport at Uttoxeter in March in the Grade 3 Midlands Grand National and last year even placed third in the Kim Muir, over 3m2f.

He thrives on these longer trips and could put those efforts behind him by finally getting a well-deserved victory.

He has the stamina, thrives on soft/heavy and difficult terrain and so could be well suited to the conditions here.

My glimmer of hope

Placed just third behind Beauport and Mr Incredible in the Midlands as well, only rose 2lb for this and has also been consistently up there in these tough races.

A very friendly gray mare trained by Emma Lavelle who seems to keep improving with every race that is offered to her.

All of her races this season have been over 3 months and could also appreciate if the ground dries out a bit, although the soft and challenging terrain is not a problem either as she is not only consistent but also versatile.
