Following a fatal crash outside Valhalla earlier that morning, Scheffler allegedly attempted to maneuver his vehicle around what he thought were security personnel. It was actually police officers who told him to stop.

When he didn’t, ESPN says a police officer even tried to tie himself to Scheffler’s car as he drove another 10 yards before stopping.

The police officer in question then allegedly seized his car, trying to get him out before he opened the door. The golf star was eventually dragged out of the vehicle, pushed against it and handcuffed.

Remarkable footage that has gone viral on social media shows Scheffler driving in the police car after the misunderstanding Friday morning.

As the golfer was taken away, ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington – who filmed the incident – tried to get the attention of the police. He was warned: “Back off or you will go to jail too!” »

“For now, he’s going to jail,” another officer said. “He’s going to jail and there’s nothing you can do about it. Period.’

‘Can you help me please?’ A panicked Scheffler could be heard asking a nearby reporter in the stunning clip.

It is claimed that the police had no idea who Scheffler was, as Darlington claimed: “A police officer came up to me with his clipboard and said – pen in hand – ‘Can you Can you tell me the name of the person we just arrested?”

The incident occurred after the second round of the PGA Championship was delayed on Friday due to a fatal accident near the club.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a shuttle bus outside the golf course. Scheffler was not involved in the accident, but he was caught in a massive traffic jam around Valhalla.

ESPN says an unidentified man was trying to cross Shelbyville Road around 5 a.m. when he was struck in a bus lane, before being pronounced dead at the scene.

Scheffler was scheduled to start his second round at 8:48 a.m. ET alongside Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman. This has now been pushed back to 10:08am after returning to Valhalla around 9:15am ET following his release.
