Scottie Scheffler pleads for ‘help’ in PGA Championship detention video

Scottie Scheffler, ‘very stunned,’ said ‘please help me’ Friday morning when he was handcuffed and arrested while trying to enter Valhalla Golf Club before the second round of the championship of the PGA.

In footage of the ordeal captured by ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, Scheffler – making his return to the circuit this week after the birth of his first child – could be seen handcuffed as he walked alongside two police officers before looking back while Darlington filmed the ordeal and said: “Can you help me please?”

As Darlington stood on the sidelines, an officer in a yellow jacket told the ESPN reporter, “For now, he’s going to jail.” »

Scheffler, 27, initially tried to avoid traffic caused by a fatal accident near the course.

A police officer began banging on the side of Scheffler’s car to make him stop as he entered the course.

Darlington, during an appearance on “SportsCenter” Friday morning, reported: “When he (Scheffler) did not stop, the officer buckled into the vehicle, Scheffler then drove another 10 yards before stop the car. »

“The officer then grabbed his arm, attempting to pull him out of the car before Scheffler finally opened the door. At that point, the officer then pulled Scheffler out of the car, pushed him against the car and immediately placed him in handcuffs,” Darlington said.

“Scheffler was then led to the police car, placed in the back with handcuffs. Very stunned by what was happening. He looked at me while he was handcuffed and said, “Please help me.” » He very clearly didn’t know what was going on in the situation – it was moving very quickly, very quickly, very aggressively.
