Scottie Scheffler Pays Tribute to Pregnant Wife Meredith, Insists ‘I’m Going Home as Quick as I Can’ After Winning Record $3.6 Million Masters Prize: ‘It’s a Very Special Moment for us”

Just after winning the Masters for the second time, world number one golfer Scottie Scheffler paid tribute to his wife, Meredith.
Meredith Scheffler was unable to make it to Augusta National because she is expecting her and Scottie’s first child in the coming days.
Just after leaving the 18th green and entering Butler Cabin for the on-air green jacket ceremony, Scheffler was asked if he had anything to say to his wife at home.
“I’m going home,” he said. “I’m going home as quickly as possible. Yeah, I love you and I’m coming home. That’s all.’
Questioned further, he joked: “You’re going to make me cry.”

Scheffler was prepared to leave the tournament – even though he was in the lead – if his wife Meredith (seen here at The Players Championship just a few weeks ago) went into labor.
That didn’t happen and Scheffler won his second green jacket on Sunday night.
“It’s a very, very special moment for both of us. I really can’t put into words what it means to win this tournament again, I really can’t put into words what it’s going to be like to be a father for the first time.
“So I can’t wait to come home and celebrate with Meredith. It’s been a long week here without her.”
Speaking publicly again at the official ceremony, Scheffler repeated this sentiment in a speech.
“I love you honey, I’m excited for the next few weeks. I can’t wait to get home. I miss you and love you, and I’ll be home soon.
Scheffler was potentially awaiting news of Meredith going into labor and he made it clear that he would withdraw from the tournament if she did indeed go into labor.
Luckily for Scottie, that didn’t happen and he claimed the $3.6 million prize for winning the tournament – and, of course, the illustrious green jacket.
