Scary footage shows huge trees falling at 2023 Masters as Augusta issues another severe weather update and delays fan gate openings

The Masters has issued a weather update as severe storms batter the southeastern United States.

The prestigious tournament, which will feature Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, announced on social media that fan admission would be delayed on Thursday due to unfavorable weather conditions in the region.

“Due to the weather forecast for Thursday, we have decided to delay all gate openings until the morning,” Masters said. “All free parking at the Masters will be closed until further notice while gate opening is delayed.”

Anxious fans have been waiting for further updates as they eagerly await the return of the major tournament, won by Jon Rahm last year.

“Ugh, I hate weather delays,” one fan posted.

“For the love of God please make them start on 1 and 10 so they don’t play 29 holes Friday or Saturday,” a second fan tweeted.

“LIV wins again,” a third fan joked.

This is not the first time extreme weather has impacted play at Augusta National.

In 2023, huge trees suddenly fell onto the course and nearly hit spectators watching the tournament.

No one was injured by the crushing trees, but spectators and course participants quickly rushed to the scene to witness the surreal scene.

The Augusta area received a wind advisory Thursday morning, with 100% rain forecast and a risk of severe weather.

Thunderstorms were expected to occur during the morning hours, while storms could contain strong and gusty winds.

Wednesday was a stunning day at Augusta, as Bubba Watson’s daughter showed off some impressive golf skills with a great putt in the Par 3 contest.

Players invite their wives, girlfriends and children to join them on the course as excitement builds for the weekend ahead.

Once the first round officially begins, Woods is expected to join Jason Day and Max Homa on the course.

McIlroy is grouped with Xander Schauffele and world number one Scottie Scheffler.

“Play in the rain,” one fan tweeted.

“The models show it was no longer raining at 10am,” posted a second fan. “Only be delayed a few hours.”

Another update from Augusta Chiefs is expected before 5 a.m. local time.
