SBU confirms largest attack on Russian airfields, targeting four bases in coordinated assault

Sources in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) confirmed to the Kyiv Post that the largest attack on Russian airfields has taken place. The SBU and defense forces have targeted four Russian airbases in what is the largest attack on Russian military airfields during the entire war.

Sources confirm that this was a carefully planned operation to prevent the enemy from using these airfields to launch guided aerial bombs along the front line and on Ukrainian cities.

“The SBU continues to methodically weaken the air component of the Russian war machine. The planes currently give the enemy an advantage in the air, but we will continue to clip the wings of these ‘birds’,” a source in the SBU told the Kyiv Post.

Earlier, the Kyiv Post reported that on Wednesday morning, Ukrainian drones attacked the Savasleika airbase, which houses the Russian MiG-31K and its Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, according to local reports.

Eyewitnesses reported about ten explosions near the airfield in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region on Wednesday, August 14, before dawn. Drone footage and videos from the area were shared on social media. Locals reported that access to nearby villages and towns, such as Savasleika and Kulebaki, was restricted.

Using NASA satellite data, the media outlet “Agenstvo” confirmed a fire near the airbase at 3:30 a.m., indicating that the drones probably reached their target during the night. The fire was detected near buildings on the airfield grounds.
