Arjuna’s winner and former world champion Boxer Saweety Boora put a FIR against her husband from Kabaddi, the Kabaddi player, winner of an Asiad, accusing him and his family, of having attacked him for the dowry. The two were married in 2022. Boora filed the FIR against Hooda, also winner of Arjuna, in Hisar d’Haryana.
“A FIR dated February 25 was filed on the basis of the complaint given by Saweety Boora against her husband Deepak Hooda,” said Seema, Sho of the women’s police station on Thursday.
When asked if Hooda had been invited to present his side, the Sho said: “We gave him an opinion 2-3 times, but he did not appear.” When PTI set out to Hooda, he defended his absence by quoting his health which “shots because of the trauma”. “I submitted a medical certificate and requested a later date. I will certainly go there (at the police station) but I will not make a negative comment against my wife. I was not allowed to meet her, “he said.
Boora, when he was contacted, refused to comment on the issue.
When asked for allegations against Hooda, the sho of the torture and assault of the women’s police station “for more dowry” is one of the accusations.
“A request for a luxury car has been made and met, but her husband also raises the monetary request,” said the Sho referring to the allegations made by Boora.
A case was recorded under article 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita which concerns a husband or a parent of the husband of a woman submitting her to cruelty.
Hooda had disputed the surveys of the Haryana Assembly in 2024 as a candidate of the BJP in the district of Meham in the Rohtak district.
He was part of the Kabaddi Indian team who won the gold medal at the Southern Asian Games in 2016 and the bronze at the 2014 Asian Games. He also participated in the Pro Kabaddi League.
