Top tipster and broadcaster, Ed ‘Longshot Ted’ Quigley is in top form and is back with his best bets for the weekend’s action…

Ted’s picks for Lucky Saturday May 15, May 11:

Find the following choices for Saturday’s races. Bet on the races with our best expert-rated horse racing betting sites:

  • Haydock 1.35 – Can I either way – bet with bet365
  • Haydock 3.15 – Lark in the morning – bet with CopyBet
  • Haydock 3.50 – Pogo – bet with PariMGM
  • Warwick 7.05 – Warlord – bet with Betway

Haydock 1.35 – Can I either way

To be frank, it has been a disappointing season for the Harry Fry-trained side. COULD I, but this looks like a good opportunity to reignite the spark in this 3m Handicap Hurdle. An early mistake ruined all his chances in the Coral Cup, but to his credit he ran much better at Aintree, staying on the beaten runners to make eye-catching late progress and finish sixth over 2m4f.

On this basis, it is worth another crack at 3 m; in his early days he tried three miles and fell into a hole when he got too enthusiastic, but as he gets older it seems more and more like this trip will be perfect for him.

Beyond a mark of 138, he is now 7lb lighter than placed in the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle at last year’s Cheltenham Festival, so he appears dangerously well treated. Lorcan Murtagh is making the trip, and this combination could do well at a one-way price.

Haydock 3.15 – Lark in the morning

LARK IN THE MORNING was a very smart winner in this season’s Boodles Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival, and has a golden opportunity to take a big pot here in the Swinton Hurdle.

The Joseph O’Brien-trained Rep soared on 122, and although he’s going up against more seasoned campaigners, if he jumps and moves like he did last time, he could easily have the reach of this mark to achieve victory again here. .

The drying out of the ground should not hamper this flexible engine, however it has its best form on a much slower surface. JJ Slevin will be aboard the 4-year-old who could still easily be ahead of his mark.

Haydock 3.50 – Pogo

POGO is a seasoned 8-year-old who has hit the crossbar in recent times, but could easily return to the winner’s enclosure here for the Charlie Hills and Richard Kingscote combination. The son of Zebedee finished fourth in Group 2 at Sandown last time out, which, numbers-wise, was about as good as could have been hoped for.

Integrated here in a listed company, it could easily impose its authority over its competitors here. It is worth noting that he is a bit of a niche performer on the 7f and has won in his only previous start over the course and distance, when winning the John Of Gaunt Stakes in 2022. S he brings his A-game to the table, he won’t be far away.

Warwick 7.05 – Warlord

The wheels have really come off lately for Joe Tizzard’s coach LORD OF WAR, but he has the backclass to get involved here by coming back over smaller obstacles. He totally wandered over the fences, but could pose a danger to everyone in this encounter if he gets excited for it.

On 128 he might have felt free, given that as recently as last November he put in a blistering display while third in the Haldon Gold Cup on 145, trying to concede 6 pounds to his stablemate Elixir De Nutz.

In that context, it’s exceptional form, and if this move to hurdles does the trick, then he’s more than capable of ruffling a few feathers here given his backclass. Brendan Powell takes over and they could easily cause an upset.

Ted’s picks for Lucky Sunday May 15, May 12:

  • Ludlow 3.28 – Sergeant Wilson each way – bet with CopyBet
  • Plumpton 5.00 – Copper Head – bet with PariMGM

Ludlow 3.28 – Sergeant Wilson

SERGEANT WILSON is a bit of an enigma, but isn’t out of the equation here, decreasing on trip and dropping to a career-low mark of 105. The 6-year-old was far too enthusiastic as he increased the distance at 2 m3f in Taunton. recently, and unsurprisingly, he didn’t stay home on this trip.

He’s now 7lb lighter than when he was narrowly beaten at Doncaster last year, so he’s starting to look undeniably quite handicapped ahead of this mission. The Nigel Twiston-Davies team has suddenly reached a purple zone, operating at a success rate of 42% for the month of May, and so a revival could easily be on the cards with the stable in poor health.

Plumpton 5.00 – Copper Head

The wheels have indeed come off COPPER HEAD lately, but the positive side is that he has dropped weight, and this really looks like a last chance sedan for him.

Rated 155 at his peak over obstacles in 2020, he’s down to 114 here so I’ll roll the dice for one last hurrah. After losing 41 pounds of weight in 4 seasons, it’s now or never for the 10-year-old trained by Joe Tizzard.

In this small area he should be more than capable of making an impact here, and gets my vote with the excellent Freddie Gingell in the saddle claiming 3lb.
