Santosh Bangar turns on Uddhav Thackeray and joins Eknath Shinde faction ahead of Maharashtra ground test

Santosh Bangar, a Shiv Sena MLA from the Uddhav Thackeray faction, joined Eknath Shinde minutes ahead of the ground test at the Maharashtra Assembly on Monday.

Bangar was seen with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his faction’s MPs in the Maharashtra Assembly. According to the ANI news agency, he left the hotel with the deputies of the Shinde faction today morning for the State Assembly.

The development is seen as a major setback for former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.

The Eknath Shinde faction now has 40 Shiv Sena deputies in total.

In the Maharashtra Assembly, which has 288 members, the BJP currently has 106 MPs. Shinde claims the support of more than 50 MPs, including some independent lawmakers.

Meanwhile, Bharat Gogawale, Chief Whip of the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) has delivered a petition to Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar of the BJP for the suspension of 16 party MPs for violating the whip.
The 16 deputies will receive a notice of suspension, confirms the office of the President.

On Monday morning, the Shiv Sena camp led by Uddhav Thackeray petitioned the Supreme Court to challenge the action of the new Speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly to recognize Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s group whip as Shiv Sena’s whip.

The Supreme Court released the case for hearing on July 11.
