‘Sandman’ Author Neil Gaiman Denies Sexual Assault Allegations Detailed in New York Magazine Article

CNN

Best-selling fantasy author Neil Gaiman has denied allegations of sexual assault made by several women that were recently reported in an article published Monday by New York Magazine.

In a statement on his website, Gaiman said he had “never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone” and that the women’s accounts contained “moments I half recognize and moments that I don’t recognize, descriptions of things that happened sitting next to objects.” this absolutely did not happen.

CNN has reached out to Gaiman’s representatives for further comment.

Gaiman, whose nearly 50 books include works adapted for television and film such as “Good Omens,” “Coraline” and “The Sandman,” was first accused of sexual assault by two women in a podcast investigation produced by Tortoise Media. in July.

In August, Tortoise reported that other women had come forward with their own allegations of sexual assault, coercion or abuse against the author. Four of the women who spoke with Tortoise also spoke with New York Magazine. CNN has not independently verified their claims, which span from 1986 to 2022 in the United States, United Kingdom or New Zealand.

Without responding to each individual allegation, Gaiman said: “While I re-examine everything that actually happened as opposed to what is alleged, I do not accept that there was any abuse. I repeat, I have never had non-consensual sex with anyone.

“Some of the horrific stories told today simply never happened, while others have been so distorted from what actually happened that they have no relation to reality,” he said. writes Gaimain. “I am ready to take responsibility for any missteps I have made. I do not want to turn my back on the truth, and I cannot accept being portrayed as someone I am not, and I can’t and won’t admit to doing things I didn’t do.

Since the allegations against Gaiman surfaced in July, several of his television and film projects are still in the works. Prime Video’s “Good Omens” will end with a 90-minute special instead of a full third season as originally planned and Gaiman will no longer receive an executive producer credit, according to Variety. The company has not released a public update on the status of another Gaiman project, “Anansi Boys.” CNN has contacted Prime Video for comment.

Meanwhile, Disney suspended its adaptation of “The Graveyard Book” due to several factors, including the allegations, IndieWire reported in September. CNN has contacted Disney for comment.

HAS Netflix, the second season of “The Sandman,” produced by subsidiaries of CNN parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, is expected to premiere later this year. A Netflix spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.
