San Jose Sharks against Edmonton Oilers: Mukhamadullin, Georgiev Out

San Jose – Shakir Mukhamadullin will not play Thursday evening against Edmonton’s Oilers, and it is not clear if the Recruit of the San Jose San Jose Sharks will be able to return this season.

Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said Mukhamadullin was still being evaluated after having undergone an upper body injury at the start of the third period of the team match against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday.

Warsofsky said Mukhamadullin was around the Sharks training center, but could not definitely say if the 23-year-old will be available to play later this month while the regular season ends. After Thursday, the Sharks, officially eliminated from statements in the playoffs last month, are only seven games. They will play their last match on April 16 at home, also against Edmonton.

When asked if the Sharks were convinced that Mukhamadullin could come back this season, Warsofsky said: “Honestly, I’m not sure.”

At the start of the third period of Tuesday match at the Honda Center, Mukhamadullin collided with Troy Terry in the neutral area, overthrowing the ducks forward. Mukhamadullin was then met by Anaheim’s winger, Frank Vatrano, who dropped his stick, threw his gloves, caught the Blueliner of the sharks and dragged her to the ice.

Mukhamadullin, not expecting Vatrano to come after him, tried to prepare his fall by placing his left arm before the ducks forward move on top of him. Mukhamadullin landed awkwardly, and Vatrano patinated while Mukhamadullin straightened up and grimacted in pain when he reached the upper body.

Mukhamadullin was then helped in the Sharks locker room by a team coach.

Mukhamadullin had played his best hockey of the season before the injury. During the 10 games immediately after Jake Walman was exchanged at the Oilers, Mukhamadulin has on average more than 22 minutes per game while playing on the upper pair with Mario Ferraro.

“I think that (Mukhamadullin) has just met the guy, and I think Vatrano saw him differently and defended his teammate,” said Ferraro about the play. “It’s just unhappy, the way they got off. I don’t think there is a bad intention. It is simply regrettable.

“(Mukhamadullin) has played a very good hockey. It sucks. I hope he is well mentally. I know that I checked him a few times, but it’s a good child. He plays well, but it’s an unhappy couple that happened.”

Warsofskky said on Wednesday that, looking back, he might have wanted a more physical response to Vatrano’s actions, saying: “We don’t like what Vatrano does. We should probably manage it a little differently, to be honest with you.”

“Our players (will be) to develop instincts in certain situations,” added Warsofsky on Thursday. “But I will never tell anyone to fight.”

The Sharks responded on the match sheet, while Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Alexander Wennberg marked to equalize the game and help send it to extension. The Sharks lost 4-3 during a shooting.

“What it looks like, obviously, we were (upset). I think our answer was to link it and go to overtime and win the match almost,” said Ferraro. “We had a few big strokes after that.

“But this is not how the game works, right? Things happen quickly, and it is in the third period. We always want to have the back of the other, but happened quickly, so I think that our answer in general, not to back up in the game is somehow an answer like that. All year round, we were difficult to react, above all.

With the unavailable Muhamadullin, the left defender Henry Thrun will return to the range of Sharks for the first time since March 8, when he re-aged an upper body injury in a match against the New York Islanders. Thrun, who missed 13 of the last 14 games, recently patinated but did not follow a full -contact Sharks practice before Thursday.

“I’m ready to leave,” said Thrun.

Injured Georgiev: The Sharks sharing goalkeeper Alexandar Georgiev have an upper body injury and will not play against the Oilers. The injury, however, is not considered serious, because Georgiev skated Thursday morning. Georgi Romanov will start against the Oilers, and Gabriel Carriere, recalled by the Barracuda Thursday morning, will safeguard him.

Yaroslav Askarov, who re-engaged in an injury to the lower body before Wednesday’s Barracuda match against Ontario and did not play, traveled with the team in Colorado and is available to play with the Ahl of the Sharks on Friday and Saturday. Askarov, who patinated the Barracuda earlier this week, has not played since February 19, when he suffered the injury for the first time.

Kovalenko, Kostin Sit: The attackers and restricted free agents pending Nikolai Kovalenko and Klim Kostin will be the healthy stripes of the Sharks against the Oilers. For Kostin, he scored the sixth time in seven games that he was scratched, and for Kovalenko, it was his sixth consecutive match as a spectator.

Noah Gregor will play in his third consecutive match, and Cam Lund will dress in his fifth consequence since he signed an entry -level contract with the Sharks last month.

Asked about his message to Kovalenko, Warsofskky said: “I think you are on the ice, if it’s a practice, if it’s a morning skate, it’s your game. You are still assessed. We will see if they come back to it.”

The Homesh Sharks continues with matches against the Seattle Kraken on Saturday and the Calgary flames on Monday.
