An 82 -year -old detainee in San Diego County prison died in a hospital after receiving treatment for low blood pressure and heart disease, the sheriff’s office announced on Saturday.
Thomas Richard Heaven was waiting for a conviction to several accusation of obscene laces commission over a minor last month when he began to present symptoms of medical distress, officials said. He was transported from central prison to a hospital, where he started treatment.
Paradise was transported to another installation earlier this month, but died evening on Thursday. He was to be criminally sentenced on May 5, according to officials.
The case is the subject of an investigation by the sheriff’s homicides unit and the Citizens Law Enforcement Review Board will lead a separate investigation, said the sheriff’s office.
The sky family was informed of death and a sheriff liaison officer was assigned to the case to help relatives, officials said. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday to determine the cause and the mode of death.
Death in detention is the third reported by the San Diego sheriff office this year.
The San Diego Sheriff Office has history of people who die in detention, with more than 70 detainees who die in the San Diego County prisons since 2020, according to files from the Sheriff’s Office.
