A man who has threatened the library customers with an ax in Pacific Beach on Thursday was then killed by San Diego police when he refused to drop the weapon, the authorities announced.
The man, who has about fifty, was taken to hospital with potentially fatal injuries but was to survive Thursday evening, said Lieutenant-Homicide of the Sheriff Juan Márquez. The Sheriff Sheriff Investigation Office in the context of an agreement on the county scale so that the services are not involved in their own shots involving officers.
Police were called for the first time at 4:20 p.m. with information that a man threatened people inside the library of the Pacific Beach Taylor branch with an ax and damaged objects, said Márquez. The man then crossed the street and the police met him at the corner of Dawes Street and Thomas Avenue, where they asked the ax, said the lieutenant.
When he refused, at least one officer opened fire, hitting the suspect, said Márquez. The police made medical aid until the medical teams arrived and took him to the hospital. His name was not released.
The police wore cameras brought to the body at the time of the shooting. Their names have not been released.
Michelle Miller, who lived in the neighborhood for more than a year, said that she was gardening in front of her house when she and her owner have heard of six shots drawn in rapid estate. When she came to the corner of the street, she saw the police arrest a man who was lying on the ground, handcuffed and injured.
The shooting will be examined by the district prosecutor’s office to determine if officers have criminal responsibility for their actions.
