San Diego International Airport Considered ‘Least Wallet-Friendly,’ Study Finds

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Do you feel like traveling in and out of San Diego International Airport is a little more expensive than other airports?

If your answer is “yes,” then you are not alone.

A new study from gaming site casino.ca shows SAN is the “least user-friendly” airport among the 50 busiest in North America.

The site’s researchers came to this conclusion based on manually collected data on beer, parking and hotel prices. Here is an explanation of their methodology:

  • Beer prices were gathered from three different drink menus offered by each airport and then calculated on average. A 20 ounce Budweiser was used as standard.

  • For airport hotels, the researchers used Booking.com. Hotels were filtered based on their “distance from the airport” and then averaged the prices of the three closest ones.

  • Airport parking rates were collected from each airport’s website where available, with economy parking selected.

According to casino.ca, SAN is the most expensive, with an average total spend of $574 for a one-night hotel stay, one night of parking and a pint of beer.

Denver International Airport comes in second as “least wallet-friendly,” followed by Nashville International Airport, then Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

On the contrary, the site lists San Jose International Airport as the “cheapest airport” to visit.
