San Diego Humane Society Rescies Rescued EMU found on the lawn of Vista Front

The managers of the San Diego Humane Society are looking for the owner of an EMU – a large bird without a flight similar to an ostrich – after the animal was found wandering in a Vista district on Wednesday evening.

A resident called Humane Society officers around 6 p.m. to say that an emu had met their family member on Vale View Drive, off Hacienda Drive just south of Route 78, said spokeswoman Nina Thompson.

Six of the organization’s officers and members of the emergency intervention team have arrived and, concerned For the safety of the bird, used a ROll of Orange Plastic Netting to guide the emu in a trailer, said Thompson. The bird was then taken to the organization’s escondido campus.
