The managers of the San Diego Humane Society are looking for the owner of an EMU – a large bird without a flight similar to an ostrich – after the animal was found wandering in a Vista district on Wednesday evening.
A resident called Humane Society officers around 6 p.m. to say that an emu had met their family member on Vale View Drive, off Hacienda Drive just south of Route 78, said spokeswoman Nina Thompson.
Six of the organization’s officers and members of the emergency intervention team have arrived and, concerned For the safety of the bird, used a ROll of Orange Plastic Netting to guide the emu in a trailer, said Thompson. The bird was then taken to the organization’s escondido campus.
When they arrived, the veterinarians noted that the bird had suffered injuries to the neck and the right wing, said Thompson. The animal, which was then nicknamed Claudius, was placed in a court completely inclined to be monitored by the medical staff.
