San Diego Comic-Con 2022 Highlights: MCU Phase 5, 2 New Avengers Movies, and All the Big Trailers


San Diego Comic-Con 2022 is happening right now, which means news, trailers, and teasers for upcoming movies, TV shows, games, toys, and more. It’s been epically huge so far, with two new Avengers movies announced on Saturday!

Here’s a selection of highlights, as we pick out some of the coolest things to inject into your eyes straight from SDCC 2022. We’ll keep adding more as the panels unfold throughout. of the weekend.

Marvel’s Phase 5 Revealed

One of the biggest news from Marvel’s big Hall H panel: Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is coming! Black Panther: Wakanda Forever kicks off Phase 4, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is officially the first Phase 5 movie.

There’s a whole host of newsworthy information in that single image. Perhaps most important: the new Daredevil! Blade release date!

Marvel announces two new Avengers movies

Looks like Marvel is trying to repeat the Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame trick. Marvel also announced not one, but two Avengers movies.

There’s Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Both are part of Marvel Phase 6. Everyone just needs to relax and give us time to breathe. The whole thing (i.e. phases 4, 5 and 6) is already called The Multiverse Saga.

People are a lot.

In addition, The Fantastic Four is also part of this new phase 6.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

We have our first look at Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Luckily, unlike a few other trailers, we got to see this one!

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3

A Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer was shown but only the folks at the Marvel Hall H panel were able to see. The big news seems to be the focus on Rocket. The internet is already going wild over “Baby Rocket” appearing in the trailer, which seems to suggest we’re getting a bit of Rocket backstory in the new film.

She-Hulk: Lawyer

We have a brand new trailer for a show we’re rather quietly excited about – She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

The big thing that everyone seems super excited about at this point is Daredevil’s appearance.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Ahead of the big Marvel Hall H panel, we got a sneak peek at an illustrated poster for the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Does that mean we’ll potentially get a preview of the movie today? Potentially. But this film will not be released until February next year. Yet here is hope!

A trailer was shown at the event, but unfortunately only people watching the show were able to see it. But look, it’s really funny.

The sand man

The Netflix adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s legendary fantasy comic series arrives August 5, and the streaming service generated excitement by dropping a new trailer on Saturday.

Star Trek: Picard

A whole slew of Star Trek: The Next Generation favorites will appear in the third and final season of Picard, which received a trailer on Saturday. It will air on Paramount Plus in 2023.

Star Trek: Lower Decks

A trailer hinted at what the crew of the USS Cerritos will be up to in Season 3 of the animated series, which premieres on Paramount Plus on August 25. We also get a crossover episode in season 2 of the live show. Strange New Worlds, which is set to begin in 2023.

Black Adam brings DC’s anti-hero action to theaters October 21 and a new trailer hinted at the moral choices Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s character will face in the film.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods

Shazam: Fury of the Gods, 2019’s sequel to Shazam, will bring more magical superhero action to theaters on December 21. He has a new trailer during the Warner Bros. panel. from Saturday, revealing Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu as a pair of very creepy villains.

Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power launches on Amazon Prime Video on September 2 and a new trailer gave us another taste of the prequel show. The show is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth, and it sure looks like the big bad Sauron is aiming to spread darkness across the land.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves trailer

Chris Pine is a bard who makes plans and plays the lute, Michelle Rodriguez is a barbarian, Regé-Jean Page of Bridgerton and The Gray Man is a warrior, Justice Smith is a mage and Sophia Lillis is a shape-shifting druid . They pull off a heist in a fantasy adventure that looks like a ton of fun, featuring classic D&D creatures like dragons, beasts of displacement, a copycat, an Owlbear, and Hugh Grant.

Moon girl and devil dinosaur clip

This fun Marvel cartoon series has a bonkers voice cast, announced at SDCC: Alison Brie, Daveed Diggs, Maya Hawke (from Stranger Things), Jennifer Hudson, Cobie Smulders, Craig Robinson, Indya Moore, May Calamawy (Moon Knight) , Method Man (!), Wesley Snipes (!!) and astronaut Dr. Mae Jemison (!!!). Laurence Fishburne also stars, having also contributed to the origin of the whole project. Coming in 2023 on Disney Channel and Disney Plus, the animated series sees the Diamond White star as Lunella Lafayette, a 13-year-old super-genius who teams up with, well, a dinosaur.

Gotham Knights Batgirl Trailer

Batman Gotham Knights spin-off game is heading to PS5, Xbox Series X and PC October 25. In the game, you play as Batman’s sidekicks robinnight wing, Red Riding Hood or Batgirl, and at the SDCC a new trailer focuses on the latter, aka Barbara Gordon. In-game footage and deleted scenes show the crime-fighter dressed in purple and yellow showing off her combat skills, weapons, and glider cape on the mean streets of Gotham.

X-Men ’97 release date

Marvel’s Animation reboot of the iconic 90s X-Men cartoon will premiere on Disney Plus in fall 2023.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year release date

I don’t know if you’ve heard of this Spider-Man character, but apparently he deserves his own animated series. Spider-Man: Year One streams, where else, on Disney Plus in 2024.

What if…? season 2 release date

Marvel animated series What if…? will return to Disney Plus in early 2023. The first series set up multiverse elements that have proven prominent in recent MCU movies, so maybe Season 2 will also be a testing ground for some cooler MCU stuff.

Marvel Zombies release date

Speaking of What If…?, one of the episodes took us to a branch of the MCU multiverse dominated by the undead. This is being extended to a whole Marvel Zombies animated series on Disney Plus — but not before 2024.

Teen Wolf: the movie trailer

When the moon is full, Teen Wolf transforms from a movie, then a TV show, then a movie again. Streaming service Paramount Plus has unveiled a new trailer for a movie featuring the cast of the 2011 TV show, including Tyler Posey, Crystal Reed and Tyler “Superman” Hoechlin. They appeared in 6 seasons of lycanthropic adventures loosely based on the 1980s Michael J Fox movie, and now they’re adding shadow ninjas and more supernatural action.

National Treasure: Edge of History

There’s no Nicolas Cage in this Disney Plus TV reboot of the treasure hunt family adventure movies, but Harvey Keitel and Justin Bartha will appear. The teaser introduces Lisette Olivera as a new generation of tomb raider, sorry, national treasure hunter.

Prey

The new Predator movie was screened to the public at the SDCC ahead of its August 5th streaming release on Hulu (in the US) and Disney Plus elsewhere.

Beavis and Butt-Head by Mike Judge

Streamer Paramount Plus has also revealed a clip from a reboot of sneering 90s metalheads Beavis and Butt-Head, which will air on August 4.

The wheel of time season 3

Amazon Prime Video has renewed its fantasy series The wheel of time, based on the books by Robert Jordan, for a third season before the second season even begins airing. Amazon also announced a series of shorts to lead up to Season 2.

Visitors to SDCC can experience the costumes for the upcoming Disney Plus Star Wars Andor Seriesaired August 31.

Power Rangers $132 Dragonzord Reveal

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Dragonzord is getting a high-end replica as part of Hasbro’s Ascension Zord project.

Hasbro showed off a top of the line $132 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Dragonzord, which CNET unveiled ahead of the Boom Studios panel on Thursday. Part of Hasbro’s Zord Ascension Project line, this Dragonzord is able to combine with the previous Megazord in this line into a Super Megazord and Battle mode.
