Samsung’s new Qi2 chargers require a case for Galaxy phones

Samsung has been stubborn when it comes to the updated wireless charging standard, Qi2, with the new standard adding MagSafe-style magnetic charging outside of the iPhone ecosystem. Google became the first major brand to adopt Qi2 with the Pixel 10 series, and although Samsung is rumored to finally join in next year, the company just launched two new Qi2 wireless chargers that remind Galaxy owners what they’re missing.

Available now from Samsung’s online store, a new “Single Wireless Charging” is a Qi2 puck that costs $34.99, while the “Wireless Car Charger” is a magnetic wireless charger meant to be mounted in your car and costs $84.99.

Both new accessories fully support the Qi2 MPP charging standard, Samsung says, but with the huge asterisk that Galaxy phones not support this without magnetic case.

A footnote visible in several places on each ad states:

Requires Qi-enabled device, Qi 2.0 certified magnetic case required for phone, and 25W power adapter (sold separately). Wireless fast charging requires a fast charging compatible device; It depends on the battery level and other factors.

In addition to requiring Galaxy owners to purchase a case for their phone just to use the charger, Samsung also requires buyers to purchase a 25W power adapter separately. Samsung’s official Qi2 case for the Galaxy S25 costs $29.99, while the one for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a lot more expensive at $54.99, and that one doesn’t even cover the front of the foldable.

These aren’t the first Qi2 chargers that Samsung has released, but they just went on sale recently. Before this, Samsung launched a 3-in-1 charger for a phone, Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Buds.
