What do you want to know?
- Recent speculation indicates that Samsung could move away from the Plus model when it launches the Galaxy S25 series.
- The theory comes from a database listing, which, oddly enough, is missing a model number that could point to the Plus model.
- However, a discovery quickly refuted this theory, claiming that Samsung has internal codenames for all three devices, including the S25 Plus’ model number.
- Samsung’s S24 Plus was a huge success this year, as users got a “sweet spot” with its QHD+ display and more RAM for a better price.
As we await Samsung’s summer 2024 event, a new theory suggests its next flagship phone lineup could be ditching a key member.
A discovery in the database made by Android Headlines showed that Samsung had only planned two S25 devices. In the list, one device was discovered with the model number SM-S931B/DS, which is supposed to be the base S25 model. Another device was found with the following number: SM-S938B. This same model has been available multiple times with different end tags such as “U” and “N”.
It was explained that the letters signify the region of its debut, with “B” representing the global market, “U” for the United States and “N” for South Korea.
While this theoretical absence of a Galaxy S25 Plus seems extremely unlikely, the publication indicates that it could be a strategic decision by Samsung. The publication also adds that the specifications of the Plus and base models have become closer over the years.
Speculation suggests that the company is focusing more on promoting its Ultra version rather than an upgraded base model.
However, the people at GalaxyClub have discovered that the development of all the three Development of the S25 models is underway (via SamMobile). The Dutch publication found evidence of three internal codenames: F1, F2, and F3, which are believed to refer to the S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra. Additionally, the Plus model carries the model number SM-S936, filling the gap between the other two devices.
It would be strange for Samsung to abandon its mid-range device following the success of the Galaxy S24 Plus. Shortly after its launch in January, early sales analysis of the device showed that the S24 Plus was more popular than its 2023 counterpart, recording a 54% increase in revenue.
The mid-spec Plus model is typically a slightly upgraded base model, though this year’s version brought QHD+ resolution to its larger display. The S24 Plus also has 12GB of RAM to round out its suite of Galaxy AI features. Additionally, Minsoo Kang, a senior analyst at Counterpoint Research, said the S24 Plus is Samsung’s “big mover” in 2024. Kang added, “It hits the sweet spot in terms of price, pushing upgrades as well as specs to support new users who want optimized AI on the device.”
Other early rumors about the device suggest that Samsung could ditch Exynos and use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoC on its S25 series in all regions.
Separately, a report from South Korea has teased the possibility of a slightly larger 6.3-inch S25 display. The post added that “global” design changes could also make their way to the next series.
