Last year, Huawei stunned the world with the Mate XT, a “tri-fold” smartphone (it folds twice, not three, by the way). And ever since its introduction, we’ve been wondering when another smartphone maker would release its own tri-fold device.
The answer now appears to be βin the second half of 2025,β based on a new report from Korea. And it will be Samsung that will present its own version, but when it launches it will be available in very limited quantities β less than 300,000 units, to be precise.

This is obviously due to the incredibly complicated production required for such a device, but we’re sure Samsung will find ways to improve its production capacity if the device proves to be extremely efficient.
This, however, may be difficult, as it is rumored to arrive at the highest price a Samsung foldable has ever launched for. The screen of the Samsung device will be made by Samsung Display. It allegedly folds in a different way compared to the Huawei Mate XT, and when fully folded, the foldable screen won’t be exposed on one side. This aims to improve sustainability.

The screen size will be different due to the new folding mechanism and will be “10.5 inches when unfolded on the left side and 12.4 inches when unfolded to the right”, says the automatic translation from Korean. The device will not have an under-screen camera.
