Samsung reportedly canceled the Galaxy S26 Edge

TL;DR

  • A new South Korean report suggests that Samsung has canceled the “Edge” line due to significantly lower than expected sales.
  • According to the report, there will be no Galaxy S26 Edge. Instead, Samsung will stick to its proven Galaxy S26 (Pro), S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra lineup.
  • A previous report had suggested that Samsung had already resumed development of the Galaxy S26 Plus.

Samsung took a giant leap of faith with the Galaxy S25 Edge, a flagship smartphone willing to compromise on some core specs in the pursuit of a thin and light body. The Korean company beat Apple before it could launch the iPhone Air, and even several other Android OEMs before it could jump on the thin and light bandwagon. However, it’s no surprise that the Galaxy S25 Edge isn’t selling well, and the latest report out of South Korea says that Samsung has already canceled its successor, the Galaxy S26 Edge.

I don’t want to miss the best of Android Authority?

According to a report from South Korea Newspaper (via Jukanlosreve on X), Samsung has decided to discontinue the “Edge” series just five months after its launch. The report states that the main reason for this decision is significantly lower than expected sales. There won’t be a Galaxy S26 Edge after all, and Samsung’s flagship lineup will feature the same three models as before: the Galaxy S26 (likely renamed the Galaxy S26 Pro), the Galaxy S26 Plus, and the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

The report further mentions that the Galaxy S25 Edge will be discontinued once all the stock produced is exhausted. The possibility of the Edge line returning would also be low and employees have been informed accordingly. However, the report mentions that since development of the Galaxy S26 Edge has already been completed, Samsung might release it separately in the future, which contradicts some of the core sentiments in favor of discontinuing the Edge line.

The report mentions that globally, the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra sold 8.28 million, 5.05 million and 12.18 million units respectively in August. In contrast, the Galaxy S25 Edge only sold 1.31 million units, which is significantly lower than the Plus model. Even considering that the S25 Edge has been on the market for a shorter time, the sales figures remain disappointing.

Two leakers separately corroborated this leak. Leaker Ice Universe claims its independent source claims “Galaxy S26 Edge is definitely gone, 100% correct.”

Leaker OnLeaks, who usually shares early renders of upcoming devices and did so for the Galaxy S26 Edge, commented on the news with a GIF that read: “It’s true.”

Earlier this year, reports widely suggested that Samsung would ax the Plus flagship in favor of the Galaxy S series flagship Edge. It was widely expected that there would be no Galaxy S26 Plus, with the S26 Edge set to replace it.

Since ultimately these are still just rumors, we’ll have to wait until Samsung unveils the Galaxy S series in the coming months to know its final plans. Until then, take all rumors with a grain of salt.
