Samsung expects sharp drop in chip sales to continue into next year

PYEONGTAEK, South Korea—Samsung Electronics sees the sharp decline in chip sales extend into next year, the latest note of pessimism for a semiconductor industry reeling from a dramatic decline in sales of PCs, smartphones and data servers.

“The second half of this year looks bad, and right now next year doesn’t really seem to show a clear momentum for much improvement,” said Kyung Kye-hyun, who heads the semi- drivers of Samsung and serves as co-CEO, at a press conference Wednesday.
